If you’re a Cancer celebrating your birthday between June 21-July 22, you’ve got a great story that comes with your zodiac sign – along with some equally spectacular jewelry.
Legend has it that the constellation was formed when the Greek hero, Heracles (also known as Hercules), hurled a murderous crab into the heavens. The goddess Hera, who had summoned the monster to assassinate the hero, turned its remains into the starry sign.
Cancer is said to be a complicated sign, which is appropriate for the curious symbol of the crab. They can be homebodies (appropriate for the crab that retreats into its shell), sweet, and loyal. They also are said to be, well, crabby, but since this is astrology, we put little stock in these generalizations.
Cancer can be hard to spot in the night sky. But jewelry designers have no trouble finding it as inspiration for their work.
Lydia Courteille’s Cancer earrings are the color of twilight. Sapphires against black rhodium gold make for a dramatic contrast.
After seeing what jewelry designers did with the humble crab, we have a newfound appreciation for the zodiac sign. Perhaps you do, too.
Look to the heavens, and you’ll find 12 zodiac signs. But you’ll find here Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces, Aries, Taurus and Gemini.
